Be sure to bring gold coins for raffles and other fun. Start time is 7pm but arrive any time after 6:00 if you’d like to grab a tasty pub dinner, get a drink, and mix and mingle before it all starts getting competitive!

It’s the Tāmaki Labour electorate campaign launch. Meet our candidate Shirin Brown, guests and supporters as we celebrate the start of the 2020 election campaign.
This is a free event for supporters (optional koha appreciated but not required). It’s a chance to let people in Tāmaki hear what Labour stands for and to introduce our candidate Shirin Brown. There will be guest speakers, including our MC Judith Tizard whose family goes back to the last time Tāmaki had a Labour MP! And we’ll have some talented young up and coming performers who will be a real treat to see on stage.

Rangimarie Hunia is the CEO of Ngāti Whātua o Orākei. She will brief members and guests on the activities of Ngāti Whātua in the region and beyond. Light refreshments will be served afterwards and there will be plenty of opportunity for questions and dialogue.
About the Speaker
Rangimarie Hunia of Ngāti Whātua descent is the CEO of Ngāti Whātua o Orākei. She was previously the Director on the Board of Whai Rawa Limited, tasked with growing the asset base of the Ngāti Whātua o Orākei Trust for the benefit of its members. She led the Ngāti Whātua o Orākei education developments prior to completing her Masters thesis ‘Economic Renaissance of a Maori Community: Ngāti Whātua o Orākei as a Case Study’ tracing the economic development journey of the hapū. She runs her own business, is a director on the Institute of Directors’ Commercial Board, a trustee on the Committee for Auckland and the Manaiakalani Education Trust.

Major change could be coming to the tax system if the Govt accepts recommendations from the Tax Working Group. Leading the list is a comprehensive capital gains tax, along with recommendations to use environmental taxation to help address our environmental challenges.
So, what are the recommendations, is change needed, and what would a better, fairer tax system look like? Dr Deborah Russell will discuss these topics and take your questions.

Dr Deborah Russell is a tax expert, a regular commentator on economic, social and political issues. She is the Labour MP for New Lynn, a former taxation lecturer, and co-author of the recent book Tax and Fairness.
